What you can do at home for toothache

What helps until you can see a dentist — and what makes things worse.

Rinse with warm salt water (half a teaspoon per glass). It takes the edge off the inflammation.

Take a painkiller — ibuprofen usually works better than paracetamol for dental pain.

**Don't:** put aspirin directly on the tooth — it burns the soft tissue. Don't apply heat — if there's an abscess, warmth spreads it faster.

If pain lasts more than two days, your face swells, or you develop a fever, treat it as urgent.
