What to do after an implant

The first week after implant placement shapes the result. Here's what to do — and what to avoid.

Avoid hot food and drink for the first 24 hours. Ice on the area reduces swelling — ten minutes on, ten minutes off.

For the first week, skip hard foods and don't chew on the treated side. Keep brushing, just work carefully around the surgical site.

Finish the full course of any antibiotics and painkillers you were prescribed. Smoking is the most common cause of implant failure — avoid it for at least two weeks.

If swelling increases after day three or you develop a fever, contact the clinic immediately.
